This is a short, plain-language summary for parents, guardians, and young readers. The Barrier Keepers website is built so that children can explore it safely — without ever being asked for personal information.
It pairs with our full Privacy Policy. If anything here is unclear, email tswartz@vanishingatpinecrest.com with the subject Privacy question and we will explain in plain words.
1. A note for parents, guardians, and young readers
The Barrier Keepers is a young adult book series, and many of its readers are under 18. We built this website around a simple promise: a young reader should be able to explore the world of the books without handing over anything about themselves. This page explains, briefly, how we keep that promise.
2. The short version
A child can read about the eight Barrier Keepers, take the archetype quiz, and explore the Realms without ever entering personal information — because there is nowhere to enter it.
3. What we never do
- We never show behavioral or targeted ads to anyone, child or adult.
- We never use tracking pixels or cross-site advertising trackers.
- We never sell, rent, or trade anyone’s information.
- We never knowingly ask a child for personal details.
4. The one place an email is collected
The only place the site asks for any contact information is The Veil Dispatch, our occasional newsletter. It is designed for a parent or guardian, it asks for an email address and nothing else, and it uses a confirmed (double opt-in) sign-up. Every issue includes a one-click unsubscribe link.
By subscribing, a person confirms they are 18 or older, or a parent or guardian signing up to receive updates.
5. Parental rights
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has somehow sent us personal information, you can ask us to review or delete it at any time. Email tswartz@vanishingatpinecrest.com with the subject Children’s privacy request. We respond within 30 days, and we do not knowingly keep personal information from children.
6. The standards we build to
COPPA — United States
The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act. We follow it by collecting no personal information from children.
GDPR-K — European Union and United Kingdom
The children’s provisions of European data law. We apply its protections to every visitor, everywhere.
UK Age-Appropriate Design Code
The “Children’s Code.” We follow its data-minimization-by-default principle — the safest setting is the only setting.
Texas SCOPE Act
Texas law protecting minors online. The Barrier Keepers is operated from Texas, and we build to this standard.
7. Cookies
We use only the few cookies the website needs to work — never advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can read the details in our Cookie Policy.
